If you’ve been following my blog weddings in Kilkenny for a while now, you’ll know I love to help inspire young couples to get creative with their wedding videos. Top 5 Wedding Video Ideas First visit?

Hello! I’m Joe, a wedding videographer covering Tipperary & Kilkenny and further afield. In this blog post I’ll be sharing some great ideas I’ve had for wedding videos, but maybe you’d like to find out more about me, read testimonials, or information on prices and packages first? I’ll wait for you…

I am full of ideas for wedding videos and will share a few of them here with you. Many of them naturally deal with the wedding ceremony itself, but there is an endless variety of creative and original ways of filming your wedding such as Rock the Frock. This time however, I’ve taken things one step further…

  1. Wedding invitations!

Let’s think outside the box, and think about wedding invitations. No, not your regular paper invitation that fits neatly into an envelope. I’m thinking of a real, live, walking and talking invitation. Have you ever thought of being filmed as you personally invite your guests to your wedding? Just imagine, we could film you in your living room or during a candle-lit dinner, you then turn to the camera and announce the date. Perhaps you won’t be able to contain your giggles, but that’s all part of the fun. I think your friends will be enthralled with this fun invitation and eagerly anticipate your wedding day i have put together a wedding supplies website dedicated to your wedding day.

  1. Save the date

Recently I filmed a couple as they announced their engagement and then I made copies for their close friends and relatives which they then posted. Of course they had to keep their engagement top secret or else the news would spread like wildfire and ruin the surprise. The young bride told me about the look of surprise on her aunt’s face as she watched the DVD and realised that is was a wedding invitation & idea’s munster. She was overjoyed and now they are all very excited about the wedding.

  1. A DVD as wedding favour

This provides another opportunity where you can become as creative as you like. We could make what appears to be a music video of the two of you walking along a beach with your favourite song playing in the background. Or if you are not comfortable talking to the camera, we could do a black and white movie (think of a Charlie Chaplin movie) with subtitles to thank everyone and at the end the groom steals a cheeky kiss!

  1. Wedding Video Kilkenny

    Thank you video.

This is another very personal and thoughtful way of using video, where you can personally thank your guests for attending your wedding in Tipperary, and to thank friends and family for all their support and help during the preparations. I filmed a hilarious video recently, where the lively couple did a rap, at times it was hard to keep the camera still, but I managed as I am professional after all. All the relatives were highly amused as they watched this together. This particular video was filmed in advance and then shown to guests towards the end of the evening of the actual wedding day. The ingratiated couple enjoyed a huge round of applause from their wedding guests and a few staff.

  1. Game show.

This idea is perhaps not for the faint of heart, and may not appeal to the more demure bride, but would be fantastic if you’re out to have as much fun as possible on your wedding day and want to entertain your guests. A pre-filmed game show where the bride and groom compete is guaranteed to get the maximum amount of laughs from your guests. Perhaps you’ve seen the Abbey Video on Facebook of the young couple who mimic Ant n’ Dec? This crazy couple have inspired many wedding videos along a similar theme and recently I’ve had a few enquiries about filming videos along a similar theme idea’s.

My calendar has nearly reached full capacity, however I still have a couple of slots available in November, and a handful in mid-week. We can’t believe how we’ve already received so many bookings to film weddings & family events for spring and summer 2015 / 16. Young couples are becoming increasingly more organised and planning every aspect of their wedding further in advance in order to secure the best services and manage costs. I think this is very sensible as I do get booked up early. I hate to disappoint, especially when a couple have received a great recommendation and their hearts are set on using Abbey Video Productions numerous Packages available.

So if you like what you see, please get in contact soon! We can meet for a casual chat over coffee, where of course you will not feel obligated or pressured into choosing Abbey Video to film your wedding day. If you have any questions at all, drop me a line or email and we can talk about bringing your ideas to life.

That’s about all for now, but I’ll be back soon with more ideas and thoughts from the world of wedding videography.

Mrs2Be Brides Choice Award 2015!

Mrs2Be Brides Choice

Mrs2Be Brides Choice brides choice awards

As a wedding videographer here in Kilkenny and coveringTipperary, Carlow,Waterford and all the other towns villages and cities around, it’s fantastic to have been nominated for the Mrs2Be Brides’ Choice Awards. Over the years I have worked hard to understand the needs of couples who choose me as their wedding videographer for theirspecial day, every couple has different ideas for their wedding video production and I encourage each bride and groom to give me their ideas and what they might like in the final production … after all it’s their day.

Down through the years I have invested both time and money to keep up with the latest cameras, editing software and all the bells and whistles that go along with the job as i feel only the best is good enough for your wedding day.

I don’t use wedding fairs, I have attended 2 in all my time as a wedding videographer, as i feel a lot of the couples that come along on the day often have their wedding suppliersbooked before hand, and that can include me! So I work on the “word of mouth” system and it really does work. As you are reading my blog you will see I also depend on my website like any other business, and of course a quick google and you should normally find me at the top of your search both in Tipperary & Kilkenny – I’m working on the other counties as we speak.
Getting back to the Mrs2Be Brides’ Choice Award 2015, every wedding I cover and produce both locally and everywhere else is an Award for me as the feed back DSC04614-300x168I get is truly out of this world and 100% recommendation fromBrides & Grooms. So I get Awards every year in my own way when couples contact me after they have viewed their wedding dvd and tell me that not only did they like their dvd but loved it and are so glad to have got a wedding video. So a happy customer is happy days! But of course in saying that the Award would be nice to receive, but we will let the powers that be make that choice, there are a lot of other fantastic videographers around the country and I wish them all the best.Wedding-Video-Kilkenny

The wedding industry is booming at the moment and next year looks like a bumper year as well. The budgets are still in place of course and rightly so, but I have often said you get what you pay for. Of course you can get your wedding video for 300 euro for the full day but is that all your memories are worth? The average price for the day can be 700+ and I think that’s fair – it often can be an 11 hr day and that’s only the wedding day, editing has to come into play after that. So I would say if your are planning on getting married and having a wedding DVD give time choosing your videographer. You don’t need to pay 900+ unless it’s a 2 man crew with 2 manned cameras, if that is what you need go for it, but I like to film with the “fly on the wall” approach. This way both you and your guests are often unaware of cameras there at all, but of course all the little details get covered, with your guests enjoying themselves and your full day captured in detail.

Thank-youSo I would like to thank you all for the nominations and I will keep you posted on the outcome

Ideas for a Vintage Wedding

Ideas for a Vintage Wedding

Wedding Video Kilkenny Cork Laois TipperaryAs a wedding videographer here in Tipperary, I encounter all the recent trends and changes in wedding styles, and in recent years the Vintage wedding has gained popularity. This is a look I see many brides and grooms aspire to. Another great reason to choose Abbey video to film your wedding is I have so many years of experience filming weddings and I have edited and enhanced so many wedding videos to help achieve this vintage look.

What is Vintage?

The term vintage can be interpreted to mean so many things, but I think it’s best to think of it as retro and as a reference to a specific bygone era. Imagine Hollywood glamour from the 1920’s, fifties style with short wedding and bridesmaid dresses, or the fashion from 60’s mods. For many, vintage can also mean rustic, country, shabby chic or simply a crafty and DIY quality. If this is a look you would like to reflect on your wedding day, it is best to choose a specific era and stick to it or make sure to limit the number of vintage references. If you choose too many details and want to include every detail you like, the wedding may begin to feel overdressed and fussy, the opposite of what you are trying to create, which is aseemingly effortless and easy style.

The Venue

I think here in Ireland, the look can be easily accomplished as we have so many old and atmospheric venues to choose from.Once you have chosen your venue, this is the best time to think about the finer details which will help to achieve the vintage look and feel you desire. Discuss your options and ideas with the hotel or events manager and ask if they have any pictures from previous weddings they’ve hosted to see what will work and if there are any definite no-nos. They will have an idea of what will work in the space. It’s in their interest that the venue looks its best as they are eager to entice further business and new clients at every event they host. Some decorative details will not work in all surroundings, for example bunting and jam jars will create a great ambiance in an outdoor tent, however the look may not translate as well in the fine dining room of a high-end hotel.

For the Decor

The vintage look can be easily incorporated into the outdoors in the form of signage on chalk boards, or possibly an old bicycle with the wedding flowers arranged in the basket at the hotel entrance. A selection of coloured jam jars wrapped in lace and secured with a ribbon make beautiful candle holders or vases for flowers. Old silver teapots filled with fresh flowers can add the rustic feel to the reception area where the guests arrive. Canapés can be served on old silver platter dishes. Menus and invites can be rolled into scrolls and wrapped with a ribbon, echoing one of the focal wedding colours. Colourful bunting used outdoors or above the increasingly popular sweet carts can add fun to the occasion and keep the younger guests entertained. If renting a sweet cart is not within your budget, an old dresser decorated with bunting will make a beautiful addition. Sweet jars can be purchased from discount shops for only a few euro. If you crave the decadent look of 1920’s Hollywood glamour, think of lace table cloths, and elaborate crystal candelabras.

Wedding video TipperaryFor the Bridal Party

Antique jewellery for the bride such as a cameo brooch or a large hair piece with pearls and diamonds will add to the feminine and vintage feel. Drop earrings work really well when the bride is wearing her hair up and away from the face. Family heirlooms are great for this special occasion and again, can help to maintain your budget. For the bride, a lace parasol will help the finish the look on a fine summer evening. Bridal hair should be loose, with a side-parting. Soft and large waves can gently frame the face falling over the shoulder, gathered into a low roll or pinned loosely to the side. Grey and brown smoky eyes really add to the vintage feel are would look fabulous in autumn-time, when brides can afford to wear slightly bolder makeup with stronger pigments. Mismatched dresses can look wonderful for the bridesmaids – think of different shades of soft pinks and peach, paired with different shoes and individual hairstyles. Bouquets look very elegant with the stems wrapped in lace and ribbon. The Groom can play his part in pulling off the look by wearing braces or sporting his grandfather’s pocket watch.

Brides especially will ask me to include shots of the finer details of their wedding day. I can begin a segment of footage with a big fat close up of their vintage ideas so your efforts can be remembered for many happy years to come! Please get in touch should you like to discuss any details regarding wedding videography for your upcoming wedding. I’d love to hear from you. It’s great to have a wedding video on a Thursday in March, and a local one at that! Kilcommon Churchwas my booking, and what a cold place it was. But for Mari & Raymond it was a perfect day … it was their wedding day. A quick call to Mari’s house on the way to the Church was my first stop. The girls were rushing around with make up, hair dryers, the works! I knew this was going to be a fun filled wedding day right away, and it was! I left Mari’s house to head to the church to capture the guys at the church but found them at a different type of establishment, with Guinness written over the door! Having filmed all the little details that Mari & Raymond had organised for the inside of the Church I went on to film the large number of family and friends arriving.

Mari arrived on time along with her bridesmaids in a party bus, which was a great surprise for all. Raymond and the lads were already in their places at the top of the Church getting some good advice from Fr Dan Woods! Mari and her dad made their way up the aisle to a wonderful greeting from Raymond, and Fr Dan gave a lovely meaningful service as usual, quick to the the point.

The wonderful Abbey Court Hotel was our stop for the evening, and who better than Ray to make everyone so welcome. I find Ray Lynch, the Wedding Co-ordinator, so helpful on the day of a wedding not only to the guests, but also to all the wedding suppliers. Ray has always been great to me recommending my video services to brides and grooms for quite a few years. The Abbey Court Hotel is also listed on my sister site BRIDES IN MUNSTER along with a short video showcasing the hotel.

abbey_court_hotel-300x195Their band for the evening was “Atomik Chicken” and from the first dance they had the floor full all night. Best wishes to Mari & Raymond, as i said it was a fun-filled wedding enjoyed by all including myself :) A big thank you for having Abbey Video Productions capture your special day. After some video footageof the guests mingling and the photo shoot, it was time to film this wonderful hotel’s function room. I love to film the little details on the tables and any other personal and guest orientated details. The speeches were carried out before the meal which i think is a fantastic idea, as it allows the speakers to enjoy their meal knowing that the speeches are over and done with.
