Last week I had the pleasure of filming a lovely fun wedding for a family I know very well, John and Tess Ryan (Bob). Their lovely daughter Aoife married Frank Cussen from Galbally in Oola Church. I called to Aoife’s house to capture the excitement on the morning – the usual stuff, hair, make up, more hair and more make up, and that was only her dad and the the lads! But seriously it was great to film all the fun of the girls getting ready- it’s a lovely start to a wedding DVD. Earlier in the week I had done a little bit of filming with Frank to get his thoughts on his upcoming wedding and on the morning of the wedding Aoife spoke her thoughts on camera and I mixed the two together to make the lovely clip you will see below.
As I mentioned, Oola Church was my next stop. What a huge amount of friends they have, guests from Galbally, Cashel and all over the world turned up! The ceremony was conducted by Fr. Jack O’Neill and when Aoife and Frank were married we moved on to Aoife’s granny’s house, a lovely farm setting with the old milking steps providing a lovely backdrop for the photo session.
Aoife and Frank had thought of every thing, with green wellies for the lads and flowery ones for the girls! Their photographers captured some great photos here and I got some lovely footage.
The Bunratty Castle Hotel was our last stop for the day. Aoife and Frank arrived soon after me – I like to try and get to the reception venue before the bride and groom to film the drinks reception so they can see what was happening elsewhere on their day. The function room in the hotel is splendid and looked fabulous on the day. The wedding cake was fantastic and the speeches were excellent – funny, emotional, and just the right length. One of the highlights of the day for the lads was when both mothers sang “The Voyage” together after the speeches; it sounded fabulous so well done to the mams for that!
Their entertainment for the night was “The Seducers” band and they had the huge crowd rocking the night away.
I’d like to wish Aoife and Frank congratulations on their marriage, and all the best for the years to come.
So if your planing on getting married in, 2017 / 2018/ 2019, give me a call and lets chat about YOUR wedding because I get booked very early!
As a popular wedding videographer here in Kilkenny and covering Tipperary , Carlow, Waterford and all the other towns villages and cities around, it’s fantastic to have been chosen as a finalist for the Mrs2Be Brides’ Choice Awards 2016. Over the years I have worked hard to understand the needs of couples who choose me as their wedding videographer for their special day, every couple has different ideas for their wedding video production and I encourage each bride and groom to give me their ideas and what they might like in the final production … after all it’s their day.
Down through the years I have invested both time and money to keep up with the latest cameras, editing software and all the bells and whistles that go along with the job as i feel only the best is good enough for your wedding day.
I don’t use wedding fairs, I have attended 2 in all my time as a wedding videographer, as i feel a lot of the couples that come along on the day often have their wedding suppliers booked before hand, and that can include me! So I work on the “word of mouth” system and it really does work. As you are reading my blog you will see I also depend on my website like any other business, and of course a quick google and you should normally find me at the top of your search both in Tipperary & Kilkenny – I’m working on the other counties as we speak.
Getting back to the Mrs2Be Brides’ Choice Award 2015, every wedding I cover and produce both locally and everywhere else is an Award for me as the feed back I get is truly out of this world and 100% recommendation from Brides & Grooms. So I get Awards every year in my own way when couples contact me after they have viewed their wedding dvd and tell me that not only did they like their dvd but loved it and are so glad to have got a wedding video. So a happy customer is happy days! But of course in saying that the Award would be nice to receive, but we will let the powers that be make that choice, there are a lot of other fantastic videographers around the country and I wish them all the best.
The wedding industry is booming at the moment and next year looks like a bumper year as well. The budgets are still in place of course and rightly so, but I have often said you get what you pay for. Of course you can get your wedding video for 300 euro for the full day but is that all your memories are worth? The average price for the day can be 750+ and I think that’s fair – it often can be an 11 hr day and that’s only the wedding day, editing has to come into play after that. So I would say if your are planning on getting married and having a wedding DVD give time choosing your videographer. You don’t need to pay 900+ unless it’s a 2 man crew with 2 manned cameras, if that is what you need go for it, but I like to film with the “fly on the wall” approach. This way both you and your guests are often unaware of cameras there at all, but of course all the little details get covered, with your guests enjoying themselves and your full day captured in detail.
So I would like to thank you all for the nominations and I will keep you posted on the outcome ~ Joe
Hi all, and welcome to this month’s wedding blog. I’m Joe at Abbey Video Productions.
When I started wedding videos here in Tipperary and Kilkenny, the cameras were BIG with a large cassette in. Thankfully, those times have passed and technology has moved on. My new cameras are Sony pxw- x180s. These cameras are so easy to carry, are lightweight and have much more flexibility. They are also much less obtrusive which is very important on a wedding day.
The use of SxS mem cards means less storage space is needed, and drop out from the old VHS tapes are long gone. HIGH quality is very important to me as a videographer here in Tipperary and Kilkenny, along with low lighting. Capability is a must, as no one likes a video light; again these days are gone.
Editing systems : Where do I start? And do you really need to know all the technology of it? Probably not! But let me give you a quick overview. I use two editing systems — Vegas Pro 13 and, of course, the old faithful Pinnacle Studio 14 HD for smaller projects. The editing system is only as good as the camera person: If your shots are not framed right or are shaky, no editing system will fix it 100%. So that’s where expertise in filming comes into play. But, of course, what’s a wedding video without a few nice, gentle special effects. That being said, I don’t like to overdo them, as they look tacky. I have seen some wedding videos with butterflies floating around the screen, or some gold dust falling over the bride as she walks in a park … tacky!
Whats new out there I hear you ask:
Well its not new, but Flash drives with your full wedding along with chapters have now been in for a while I have delivered some weddings on them and the quality is fantastic, but not every household has a TVs with a flash drive slot so the good old DVD is here for a while yet, but the Flash drives will soon be our main format for delivery The reason is that it will allow us to supply your wedding footage in broadcast high definition quality, all my weddings are recorded with the very latest Sony pxw- x180 cameras so its time to make the change and let couples really enjoy better than 100% quality.

Where can this all happen:
While I am based in Tipperary, but I also have a huge clientele in Kilkenny, Carlow, Waterford, Wexford, and everywhere around Ireland, really you could find me anywhere.
Tipperary is, of course, my local area and I love local weddings. It’s great to be asked back to film a wedding for a family that I have all ready worked for. That’s ‘word of mouth’ and the BEST way to do business. Kilkenny is my next area, as it was in the Kilkenny/Carlow area that I filmed one of my first weddings. Only last week, I was in Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow with the reception in Mount Wolseley but, as I said, I love to film. So wherever your wedding is, give me a call and let’s chat about your special day. After all, I do have the experience.
Want to check out some local wedding suppliers :
We all like to keep it local with wedding suppliers, as it’s so much easier all round. Well, have a look at Brides in Munster It’s packed with

After All, Your Big Day Deserves more than the Registrar’s Office. Getting married is one of life’s biggest events and every couple wants it to be as memorable as possible for all the right reasons. Now of course there is nothing wrong with a traditional civil ceremony and after all, the most important part of the day is the actual marriage itself, although, I have filmed a lot of Civil ceremony’s In and around Tipperary and Kilkenny and getting hitched in a registrar’s office may not be the most romantic of settings or the day you’ve always dreamed of. Your wedding is something that you (hopefully) will only be doing once so it’s worth making that extra effort to ensure the day is as special and unique to you as possible. The following alternative ceremonies will give you a brief idea of how you can make the day that little bit more special.
The Possibilities are endless there are now more ways than ever for brides and grooms to mark their special day and these alternative ceremonies are becoming ever more popular around the world and especially in Ireland A ‘knot tying’ ceremony One of the most unique alternatives is known as a ‘knot-tying’ ceremony. Here, the couple can demonstrate their combined strength by tying a fisherman’s knot. Getting tighter with pressure this knot is meant to signify a couple’s strength. Ideally the material used in this ceremony should have some significance, for example a strip of cloth from the dress that the bride wore on the first date if possible. Every ceremony is unique so it is entirely up to the happy couple but this is certainly one idea which is becoming more popular. Other alternatives
Another alternative which is becoming increasingly popular is a sand ceremony. In this ceremony, the couple mix two different colours of sand into one container which symbolises their hearts and lives becoming entwined. The fact that it is extremely difficult to separate the two colours once they have been mixed is also highly significant as this is a reflection of the couple being joined together and unable to be separated. A water ceremony works in much the same way as a sand ceremony with each partner having a container of coloured water which is unique to them and then pouring it into one joint container, therefore symbolising unity and togetherness.
A Lasting Memento As your wedding day is such a unique and special occasion it is well worth having a memento which will last forever and I can make that memory last forever so no matter where your getting married let it be Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow or Waterford or anywhere in Ireland my packages are designed to suit you in terms of style and budget. Videography companies like Abbey Video Productions have experience in recording all manner of ceremonies, indoors and outdoors and in various locations so wherever your ceremony takes place, I can record it without any problems.
Well I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas, and a lovely time with family and friends as I did. Wedding Video Bookings for 2016 are pouring in the last few days. Even January this year is as busy as July! It’s something I have never encountered before but is great to see. Even 2017 is well booked at the moment and 2018 is starting already. Throughout the year, I have had to recommend some well heeled colleagues of mine to brides for whom I was booked for their date. If I am booked, I don’t just send them a name of the first videographer that springs to mind. I have a few professional guys that I hold in the highest regard and we always recommend each other, should one of us be booked. With this way of working, no couple will get the run around with different prices. I would never recommend someone I would not use my self.
Tomorrow its back to work with my first wedding of this mad busy time of year is in Tipperary town tomorrow, Tuesday is Inch near Thurles and then on to Kilkenny and to the the fantastic Lyrath hotel. And of course New Years eve is a very popular choice with couples all over Ireland Solohead just a few miles from me is where you will find me that day, its great to be local this time of year. I love the Christmas & New year weddings
The last few weeks has been hectic filming weddings and school shows in and around Tipperary along with Kilkenny and Waterford as well as editing. But ALL my weddings even the last one on the on the 19th of December, was with the couple in time for Christmas for them to enjoy with family and friends over the holidays, I cant understand some videographers that I hear of leaving couples without their wedding DVDs for Christmas, Breda and myself make sure we have all the info for their wedding on our computer inc their titles, music choices, so when I have the film downloaded to our system we are ready to go!
While looking back on last year, Dundrum House Hotel In Tipperary which is with with great sadness has been damaged by fire earlier this year was one of my most visited wedding reception areas along with Clonmel Park Hotel Hotel Minella, Clonmel, Hotel Kilkenny , New park hotel Kilkenny I also visited Cork, Waterford and Limerick. And I would like to thank all the hotels for their help on the day, and look forward to working in all the local hotels around Tipperary, Kilkenny and Carlow and the others again in 2016 So wherever you might be getting married, give me a call and I will give you the most competitive price you will find anywhere in Munster.
So, with a fantastic looking year ahead and with 80% of my work in and around Tipperary and Kilkenny, I guess I can’t complain. However, with every new year I try and create a new and unique way of crafting wedding videos and editing. Anyone can give you a wedding video, but I try and make it that bit special. It’s this that has kept me ahead of other other “video guys “, while still offering a Professional Affordable and Unobtrusive service. So, if you are planning your wedding for this year, you’d better be quick and contact me now, or even for 2016/ 2017 as I am being booked very fast. To see my new and unique way of how your wedding video could look, give me a call. I will try to match your service area, along with the hotel that you might be using, with a full wedding DVD to view at home. This way, you get a feel of my true work
Weddings are huge business in every country, and your wedding needs planing a lot of planing I know I hear it all first hand so to help you along with your big day have a look at BRIDES IN MUNSTER again a local wedding suppler site but covering Kilkenny and Carlow for the local brides in 2015/ 16 its packed with 100% top notch wedding professionals covering wedding video , wedding photography, wedding cakes , wedding flowers, wedding rings, wedding dresses, wedding sweet carts any thing wedding its there! as I said before if you don’t see a Wedding a suppler on this great local wedding supplier site are they worth the call?
Also I got many thank you cards over Christmas from couples whose weddings I have filmed over the year, with 80% of them from around Tipperary where most of my work is. It’s great to get feedback from brides, it shows we are doing a great job and they enjoyed their wedding DVDs.
Wedding videography is a record of your day the way you would like it told, and along with our camera skills and editing this can be achieved. No wedding is the same and any videographer that goes out to do a job should never treat it like “yesterdays wedding” – every couple has different ideas of what they think their wedding video should look and feel like and I love to hear this, because it gives me a clear picture of what they are seeing. When the day arrives I keep this in mind, and work to achieve it.
Merry Christmas from Wedding videographers Kilkenny
Well, it’s that time of year again, when I look back and say a big thank you to all my customers, and of course my friends the wedding suppliers we have met throughout the year, and, of course to the hotels that have looked after us and feed us along the way. It’s been a great year for weddings, along with other video work. This time of the year, it’s school show after school show most nights of the week! Cashel. Tipperary Town, Clonmel schools, Shows in Kilkenny of course and of course a few in Waterford. It’s great to see the pupils perform, both for the camera and, of course, their teachers and parents. Each year, it’s great to get the phone call or the e-mail opening with “Please, Joe, tell us you’re free to video our show again this year. The parents and the children are still raving about last year’s production you captured for us, so, it’s a job well done!” and the nice part is I never had to go chase a job, below is just a little Christmas jingle I uploaded enjoy…
Getting back to weddings over 2015. All of my weddings were local to me this year. When I say local, I mean Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Limerick ,and not forgetting, Tipperary. 80% were from recommendations and it’s great to be called back to the same family for their son’s or daughter’s wedding along the way. I have been very fortunate with my results on Google of late, being number one for wedding videos. Tipperary and Kilkenny ! It’s not easy getting time to blog and to make samples with all the editing and filming, but as I say on my page it costs me nothing to to send out a full demo to a couple which I do 95% of the time, this way the couple can see and get a feel for my work in its full glory and not a special made up snippet you might see on a website, my full wedding demos are FULL weddings, with full permission of the couple involved, not a 4 min highlight of a bight sunny day! My wife and special effects editor, Breda, makes sure all the weddings I film are ready for the couple when they arrive back from honeymoon, I hear horror story’s regarding other videographers not having a wedding video ready for months after the wedding! I feel its very unfair to the couple that has paid for a service and have to wait that long… these guys seem a bit bogged down to me! The same with my shows, only last year I filmed a Christmas show in Newport 3 days before they got their Christmas Holidays Breda starting editing it the morning after and I was making copy’s and boxing the DVDs that night to deliver the next day, and of course I was called back to film this years show next Wednesday night That’s the great thing about working as a team, ths way, it’s fresh in their minds and they can relive it all over again with family and friends over the Christmas holidays well I like to say… When you’re professional you’re professional, and that’s the way to do business.
It’s a short post, as I said. We have a lot of editing to get on with, and my DVD copy towers are spinning away behind me as I type. So, Merry Christmas to you and your family. Please have a safe one and look out for each other over the festive period also check out my fantastic new packages for 2016/ 17 & I even have some booking for 2018 so give me a call, E mail, Text. ~ Joe
“Typical Irish Weather” How to Deal with Rain on your Wedding Day
Your wedding day is without doubt one of the biggest days of your life, if not the biggest. However, there’s one thing which can spoil it and that’s the unpredictable Irish weather, particularly in areas such as Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow and Waterford.
Whatever you do, don’t let a rainy day put a dampener on your start to married life. For all you blushing brides and dashing grooms out there, here are just a few tips to stop the typical Irish weather from spoiling your big day.
Preparation is key
Of course there is nothing you can do to prevent the rain but there are a few steps you can take to prepare for it. Unfortunately everywhere in Ireland is susceptible to high rainfall, even beautiful wedding location such as Tipperary and Kilkenny. As a famous Cork man once said, “ fail to prepare, prepare to fail”, never is this more true than on your wedding day.
Here are a few steps you can take to prepare properly for the day you tie the knot.
Check the weather forecast well in advance and advise your guests
It’s your special day so people won’t mind a bit of rain but do give them some warning if possible. If there’s a high chance of it bucketing down, let your guest know so they can dress accordingly. The last thing you want is all your friends and family drowned to the bone with no umbrellas or jackets to be seen.

Relax and embrace it
Try to relax and not get worked up. This may not sound like great advice but a wedding day is stressful enough without having the added worry of the weather to think about. Just take a few deep breaths, remind yourself that there was always a possibility of rain and embrace it. Try to imagine the raindrops being the perfect backdrop to your special day rather than something that spoils it. It wouldn’t be Ireland without a bit of rain, right?
Trust the experts
A rainy wedding certainly isn’t ideal but the professionals that you hire for the day will have covered hundreds of weddings in all manner of conditions so trust them to do a great job regardless of the weather.

Videography professionals such as Abbey Video Productions are used to working in all weather conditions in locations like Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow and Waterford. They will be well prepared and able to confidently handle any challenges that the weather may present.
Have a Plan B
If your guests are getting soaked and you can’t stand another second of having an umbrella hovering over your head for the entire day then perhaps it is time to head inside. Try to ensure that your venue has an indoor area that you would be happy to use as the backdrop for your photographs and videography. After all, it is one thing to embrace the rain, but it’s another thing entirely to be getting soaked to the skin and rained on for the entirety of your big day. If there is an indoor alternative at the venue then do ensure it is ready for use if necessary.
It’s all about the bride and groom
Just remember it is your special day and the only thing that your guests and the professionals such as the musicians, the Abbey Video Productions team and the venue staff want is to see is the bride and groom enjoying it. Do your best to be thorough in your preparations and you will definitely have a day to remember.
Wedding Video Bookings for 2016 and 2017 are pouring in the last few days. Even January coming is heavily booked it’s something I have never encountered before but is great to see. I do think my number one ranking on Google is good, but word of mouth is better and that’s how my businesses works the best. Even 2017 is well booked. Throughout the year, I have had to recommend some well heeled colleagues of mine to brides for whom I was booked for their date. If I am booked, I don’t just send them a name of the first videographer that springs to mind. With this way of working, no couple will get the run around with different prices. I would never recommend someone I would not use my self.
The last few weeks has been hectic filming weddings in and around Tipperary along with Kilkenny and Carlow, This is why I had to defer a brand new editing software until next month which is the most professional in Europe. I have made the big decision to change over to a top of the range MAC. After a lot of research, I have learned that, together, MAC and the new editing software will both provide even more fantastic results to my editing work. It will also make my turn around time even better. Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 software is the best video editing software available my two new top of the range Sony cameras are well in training by now after the few months of hard work and works nearly by themselves
So, with a fantastic looking year ahead and with 80% of my work in and around Tipperary and Kilkenny, I guess I can’t complain. However, with every wedding that I film I try and create a new and unique way of crafting wedding videos and editing. Anyone can give you a wedding video, but I try and make it that bit special. Civil ceremonies In Kilkenny and all over Ireland have become very popular in recent times. As a popular wedding videographer here in Tipperary and Kilkenny I am well acquainted with filming civil ceremonies and civil partnerships, so a visit to Kilshane House for a civil ceremony near Tipperary Town lately was just another day at the office for me but a very special day for Cora and Ivan. They were a lovely couple and fantastic to work with from start to finish. Here is a clip from their day in Kilshane house.
Cora and Ivan celebrated their wedding day with a large number of family and friends at Kilshane. I am sure that all Tipperary videographers would agree that for a civil ceremony, Kilshane is Tipperary’s Number One venue.
This fantastic hotel will give you all you need and more. It is an elegant and spacious Regency house built in 1822 situated at the end of a half-mile long driveway. It is the centre-piece of 320 acres of private parkland which includes a trout river, a remarkable Victorian landscaped garden with a man-made lake, huge noble trees, grassy expanses and the unique Tipperary sky. A large and handsome conservatory circa 1860 is ideal for a glass or two of champagne, or a champagne reception under glass. Enjoy an intimate dinner in a private room off the Conservatory… or an elegant dinner in the formal dining room…or fine dining on a grand scale in the Orangerie.
This Wedding story began with Cora getting ready at the hotel the morning of their wedding, on one of our few sunny days this year. The Hotel makes you feel relaxed the moment you come through their doors. After the ceremony the photo session took place in the grounds of this great house, which has a beautiful lake situated half way up the drive. It is ideal for wedding footage and photos alike. It was a pleasure to have been asked to be part of their wedding day, and as I have filmed lots of weddings in the hotel I know all the nice areas to capture a couple’s day in style
With this lovely couple we went to the lake for their wedding shoot. It was an abundance of colour with wild flowers and trees, and the old boat house in the background made for some great footage as you will see in the clip. They were a lovely relaxed couple and really enjoyed their photographs being taken, which makes it easier for us all! As with all wedding videos it’s at this time that we get the time to be creative and make the couple’s DVD something to stand out from the rest. I really enjoy trying new angles and exposure to bring out the best in the location as again you will see in the clip
Editing was so much fun on this wedding as I had loads of fantastic footage to work with, from start to finish. Again, this is very inportant when filming a wedding as it really gives me so much more to chose from – one thing I don’t like is to scrimp on footage, after all it’s YOUR day.
